The Science of Gender (or "Sometimes It's Hard to be a Woman")

Wednesday, March 11, 2015
5:30 pm

Venue: Space Six, Commercial Union House

Male-to-female transgender people still have difficult lives, mostly based upon the problematic diagnosis of terms such as ‘sex’, ‘gender’ and ‘sexuality’ by the dominant cisgendered population. In addition, there’s a continuing scepticism as to the very existence of ‘transpeople’ – are they simply mentally ill, or are they really gender dysphoric?

This session will give a brief overview of current thinking on gender, sex and sexuality from the point of view of an ‘out’ transwoman who has worked in the education profession for thirty years. Be there, or be very square!
