This light-hearted lecture will investigate British cultural responses to the debate surrounding the phenomenon of ‘living statues’ – a popular music hall turn. We will look at paintings, sculptures and original photographic postcards and reference contemporary media sources. Prepare to be shocked and remember – ‘If it Moves, it’s Rude!’
Biography
Cecilia Holmes was awarded her PhD in 2005 from Northumbria University. Her specialist area of interest is British Art, particularly of the early and late twentieth century. Her first degree was in Fine Art. She has lectured for a range of institutions across the North East.
